Leap Day

My task was to document my day on February 29, 2012. We are all trying to get over a darn cold and haven't really been doing anything too exciting these past couple of days.  Then, an idea came to me. I could treat this day like a reality TV show, meaning that I could plant a few fun surprises (maybe an old boyfriend comes to my door professing his undying love for me and then I cry over the banister of my patio as I try to decide whether I want to accept him back into my life or stick with the man I have been married to for 3 years) throughout the day and pretend that was a normal day for us. Come on, we all know that's how those shows work. My sister and I have done research (meaning we have watched the shows) and after having a long discussion (the discussion really happened), we decided that most reality TV shows are not reality.
I decided against adding a little pizazz to my day in hopes that my real everyday activities will be cherished when my kids are all grown up and I don't have them home anymore.

My day begins with Addy singing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" in her crib. After about 5 minutes of repeating the same 5 words, she gets bored and starts to yell my name. I drag myself out of bed and am greeted by huge smile and "Hi" when I walk into Addy's room. She is always so happy in the morning. I really don't know where she gets that from...it is definitely not me and I am sure it is not from her dad either.
After a breakfast consisting of cereal, blueberries and applesauce (she also wanted grapes, but I told her she had to wait until lunch), Addy requested, like she does every morning, afternoon and night, that she watch her cousin Aubrie on the computer. We fired up the computer and Addy hunkered down ready to watch this 30 second video about 5 or 6 times.
Time #1
Time #2
Time #3 (she know how to replay the video, which makes it nice for me)
In case you were all wondering, my cute niece Aubrie uses the big girl potty, she gets nerds, candy, and gum when she goes pee-pee in the potty, she does not wear diapers, she wears pull-ups and unders, she knows the first article of faith, when she says father in the first article of faith, it sounds like padre, and she is one lucky girl.
Next on the agenda was a tub for Addy. This was a very special day for us because it was the first time that we actually used real shampoo on Addy's hair. I think she finally has enough hair to justify buying shampoo for it instead of just using the Johnson's baby wash. She thought she was pretty special; I did too. I have been looking forward to this day for a while.
About the time I got Addy out of the tub, Toph came home from working out.
After begging Toph to take her outside, Addy and Toph drew some creations on our patio.

I got ready for the day while they were drawing outside. When I was still in the bathroom getting ready, Addy came running in from outside. She loves to sit on the bathroom counter while I am getting ready. I sat her up there, but she got bored a few minutes later. I let her down and she went straight to the scale which is another daily thing she likes to do.
She usually yells out "six" when she gets off the scale, but today, she let me know that she weighs nine. At this rate, she will weigh a whole 30 pounds by the time she hits high school.  All I can say is there are going to be some jealous girls at her high school.
After playing for a little bit, we had lunch and put Addy down for her nap.
Naptime is a great thing. Toph was able to apply for jobs while I got on the internet in search of some good deals. My sister, Carrie,  (who is an amazing shopper) recently gave me some websites where she goes to look for deals. I am making Addy's photobook for 2011 and I found a great deal on one!
When Addy woke up from her nap, we went to the park. Addy has asked to go to the park the last few days, but she has a stuffy nose and the weather hasn't been all that warm lately, so I have tried to delay the park trip. It finally warmed up today, so off we went.
(Please ignore the fact that Addy is in different clothes, this picture may or may not have been taken at a different time)
When we got home, we found out that Addy has a new cousin! Toph's brother and his wife had a little boy they named Cooper. We can't wait to meet him!
Our evening consisted of a lot of playing with toys. I really did not feel like making dinner, so I went to my go- to meal that I make when I am feeling a little bit lazy; chicken fettuccine alfredo. It is one of my favorite meals and the sauce is really easy to make.
Once we got Addy to bed, Toph and I watched a couple episodes of The Office and then called it a night.
Just another day!

  2. I like your reality better than a fake reality show. Addy is getting so big. I guess I'll have to post more video of Aubrie since you have the last one memorized.

  3. You should talk to Carrie about making a little longer video of Aubrie--maybe like 2 hours so you can take a nap while she's watching it.
